Calitzdorp Port & Wine Festival

Port and Wine
I will be visiting the Calitzdorp Port & Wine Festival next weekend, 16 - 18 June 2011, and this is why:

Calitzdorp is often referred to as the Port Capital of South Africa due to the numerous prize winning Ports produced in our area.   Calitzdorp is home to 8 wine cellars - Axe Hill, Boplaas, Calitzdorp Wine Cellar, De Krans,  Du'SwaRoo, Peter Bayly, TTT Cellars and Withoek - all participating in the Festival.  Local ports and wines can be tasted at the various cellars or at the central tasting venue located in The Barn at the Station.   The local cellars will be joined by members of the South African Port Producers Association (SAPPA) on Saturday at The Barn.

Biodiversity
The Klein Karoo has a unique biodiversity with rare flora and fauna which is a major attraction in our area.  The Festival celebrates this biodiversity by hosting an exhibition and presentations by our local experts on the succulents and other plants of the Klein Karoo, the Cape Leopards living in our surrounding mountains, the numerous diverse butterflies of the area and how our landscape was formed and the associated geology of the Little Karoo.  Visit the Donkey Trail exhibition and meet the guides and donkeys that travel to Die Hel and back.

The festival promises to be jam-packed and something for everyone, so remember
the date 16-18 June 2011 and expect the warmest welcome to the best little village in the Klein Karoo! Why not join me for this fun experience?  If not, check out next week's blog to see what we did!
